According to an annual report published by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the valuations placed on wind energy assets slipped in 2009. The report, Portfolio Hunters III: focus on the acquisition and valuation of wind power assets, shows that asset divestment programs by some developers and a risk-averse attitude by potential buyers led to a modest fall in the valuations placed on commissioned wind farms, and a bigger fall in the value of assets under development.

In April, the UK Government introduced FITs to stimulate growth in the UK renewable energy market. The scheme promises cash rewards to homeowners, businesses and communities who install technologies for renewable energy.
The FITs entitle householders, communities and organisations that install technology renewable technology to be paid:
• £0.361 per kWh for new build installations up to 4kW
• £0.413 per kWh for retrofit installations up to 4kW
• £0.361 per kWh for installati... [more]
According to a new long-term projection model from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, annual global expenditure on renewable energy projects will increase from $90 billion (USD) in 2009 to $150 billion in 2020. The model shows that this will further increase to $200 billion by 2030 given current policy targets.
The new findings apply the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Global Energy and Emissions Model GE2M, which is a long-term projection model covering the entire world energy system. The new mod... [more]
Beacon Power Corporation has shipped, installed and connected a Smart Energy™ 25 (Gen 4) flywheel energy storage system at a wind farm in Tehachapi, California. The system is part of a wind power/flywheel demonstration project being carried out for the California Energy Commission.
The primary goal of the project is to demonstrate that advanced control technology with energy storage can help expand the delivery of wind energy by effectively increasing the capacity of constrained transmission ... [more]
The SBHS (Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme), unveiled by Jim Mather, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism, will give grants of up to 40 per cent of project costs, capped at £100,000. The funding is open to small and medium-sized businesses to install renewable energy heating systems.
SMEs in England and Scotland can also borrow £5,000 to £200,000 interest-free for the installation of renewable energy or energy efficient plant – such as wind turbines, Solar PV and Biomass.

According to a 2008 study by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, a DOE research institution, 1 MW of fast-responding flywheel-based regulation can be expected to provide the equivalent of 2 MW of conventional slow-responding regulation, based on a mix of conventional regulation resources like those used in California. In areas with less hydropower-based regulation than California, the comparative advantage of flywheels may be even greater.
