Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables have been awarded the rights to develop a major offshore wind farm off the east coast of England in the North Sea. Fully utilised, it has potential to meet the equivalent electricity needs of more than four million homes annually.
The award was made as part of The Crown Estate’s Round 3 offshore wind farm programme following 12 months of initial assessments of the zone’s potential by Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables.

Helix Wind, Corp. has signed a binding Letter of Intent to acquire VENCO Power GmbH of Germany. The total purchase price of VENCO will depend on the value of the Euro at closing and will range from 2.75MM to 3MM EUR in cash and restricted common stock of Helix Wind, Corp.

A wind turbine-blade manufacturer has been fined after a number of its employees were diagnosed with occupational dermatitis.
Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court heard that 13 workers at Vestas Blades UK Ltd’s factory on the island had been diagnosed with the condition between 2005 and 2007. Each of the workers had been routinely exposed to epoxy resins that were used during the manufacturing process.

Versar, Inc. has announced that it was one of 53 organizations selected for new wind energy projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as announced by DOE Secretary Steven Chu. These projects, with total DOE funding of $8.5 million, are intended to address market and deployment challenges identified in DOE’s 2008 report: “20% Wind Energy by 2030.”

Vestas has received an order from EDF Energies Nouvelles for delivery of 37 x V90-2.0 MW wind turbines for Sardinia, Italy. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines and a five-year service agreement. The wind turbines will be delivered to a project in the municipality of Bonorva in Sardinia during 2009 and 2010.
