Under the EU Landfill Directive the UK is committed to reducing Biodegradable Municipal Waste (BMW) sent to landfill. This requires reductions against 1995 tonnages of 35% by 2010, 50% by 2013, and 65% by 2020. Cornwall County Council grants planning consent to the UK's first solar power plant(05/10/2010)
Cornwall County Council has decided to grant planning consent to the UK’s first solar power plant. Berkshire based company 35 degrees, will install 5,000 solar panels at the site of the former Wheal Jane tin mine near Truro. Cornwall Council is expecting as many as a 100 applications for solar power plants to be submitted in the wake of their decision. Institution of Civil Engineers launches inquiry on how to deliver radical change in the waste sector(26/03/2010)
2010 is a significant year for the waste and resource management sector as the first year the UK’s performance on meeting EU Landfill Directive targets will be reported. Urgent action is needed to address the energy crisis facing the UK(09/10/2009)
