Oahu has the largest population among the Hawaiian Islands and thus the greatest demand for electricity. Criterion wind project: Constellation Energy acquires Criterion wind project

Constellation Energy has closed its agreement with Clipper Windpower, Inc., to acquire the Criterion wind project in Garrett County, Md., and to purchase 28 Clipper Liberty 2.5-megawatt wind turbines for the project. The 70-megawatt project will be developed, constructed, owned and operated by Constellation Energy. It is estimated that up to 125 new jobs will be created during peak construction. The European Commission has announced more than Euro1.5 billion/ £1.3 billion of money to support 15 offshore wind and carbon capture & storage (CCS) projects across Europe. United Kingdom partners are to receive around £262 million for three projects: £66m for HVDC hub in Scotland; £36m for an off-shore wind farm near Aberdeen, and £160m for a CCS project in Hatfield in Yorkshire. Clyde Wind Farm: Skykon wins contract to supply towers for largest onshore wind farm in Europe

Scottish and Southern Energy is to build 152 turbines for the Clyde Wind Farm near Abington in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The £500 million project is expected to offer 350MW of new renewable electricity generating capacity – providing enough power for more than 200,000 homes. The UK minister of state for the Ministry of Justice, David Hanson, has visited Allbrite UK’s innovative eco-retail showroom in Mold, North Wales, to find out about solar power, solar hot water systems, energy-efficient under floor heating and domestic wind turbines.
