Green Deal Skills Alliance: Climate Change Minister encourages skills for the Green Deal and launches The Green Deal Skills Alliance
(24/01/2012)

Climate Change Minister Greg Barker recently launched a partnership to ensure the UK has the right skills to implement the Green Deal, the government’s flagship policy to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The Green Deal aims to enable private firms to offer consumers energy improvements to their homes, communities and businesses at no upfront cost and to recoup payments as a charge in instalments on the energy bill. The Green Deal Skills Alliance (GDSA), officially launched by th... [more]

global nuclear generation Capacity: As a result of high costs, low demand, and recent disasters, global nuclear generation capacity falls
(13/12/2011)

The latest Vital Signs Online (VSO) report from the Worldwatch Institute indicates that due to increasing costs of production, a slowed demand for electricity, and fresh memories of disaster in Japan, production of nuclear power fell in 2011. Despite reaching record levels the previous year, global installed nuclear capacity, the potential power generation from all existing plants, declined to 366.5 gigawatts (GW) in 2011, from 375.5 GW at the end of 2010. Not surprisingly, this drop in in... [more]

Genesis Project: Micro generation power Solar 5 station creates solar power in Somerset
(20/10/2010)

Many in the renewable sector already recognise the South West as an important region for the industry, although Somerset is perhaps less high profile than some other counties. However, a ‘green’ culture is very much part of the county’s approach, with Somerset being the UK’s first Transition Local Authority, ensuring that measures to save energy and cut global warming are at the forefront of forward planning. Somerset County Council has been proactive in the development of wind power initiat... [more]

GE2M: Global expenditure on renewable energy projects to double by 2020
(19/03/2010)

According to a new long-term projection model from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, annual global expenditure on renewable energy projects will increase from $90 billion (USD) in 2009 to $150 billion in 2020. The model shows that this will further increase to $200 billion by 2030 given current policy targets. The new findings apply the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Global Energy and Emissions Model GE2M, which is a long-term projection model covering the entire world energy system. The new mod... [more]
