Two inventors have patented The Green Roadway technology portfolio, an end-to-end system of installations and configurations for creating, gathering and distributing solar or wind energy along roadways. The technology could be implemented on the right-of-way along interstate highways, local roads and even railways.

“Genedics’ Green Roadway patents describe a forward-looking clean energy system that provides near term solutions to power generation siting difficulties,” said Victor Cardona, Co-Chair of Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti P.C.’s Cleantech Group, publisher of the Clean Energy Patent Growth Index, which tracks patent trends and innovation in the clean energy sector. “The innovative use of space and the potential for on-road electric vehicle charging stations will be particularly valuable as these systems are rolled out.”

Genedics Clean Energy, LLC will license their system in the U.S.A. through Ocean Tomo on a state-by-state basis in order to provide for the most expeditious deployment of their technology. On July 24, Ocean Tomo will conduct a private sealed bid auction for exclusive licenses to bring The Green RoadwayTM technology to each state.

California and many other states generate 40 percent of their emissions from their transportation systems. The Green RoadwayTM Project is an answer to this problem. This innovative and efficient clean energy gathering and distribution system will create renewable energy along America’s roadways and complement smart grid technologies.

“The transformation of our nation’s roadways from a source of pollution to a new-found supply line for clean renewable energy is needed and timely,” said environmental leader Kelly Meyer, who is spokesperson for the project. “The Green Roadway Project is an exciting solution.”

The inventors of the Green Roadway Project, Gene Fein of Malibu, CA, and Ed Merritt of Lenox, MA, have created unique methods of harnessing alternative sources of energy, with low incremental cost and high cohesion with existing energy infrastructure. The Green RoadwayTM serves as the backbone for the creation of new nodes connected to the smart grid system to provide flexibility and convenient distribution of clean energy.

Ms. Meyer sees development of clean energy alternatives in public right-of-way along the nation’s highways as a “billboard of hope for our youth as they look out the window of their family car and see that clean energy is part of their lives and a commitment to their future.”

The Green RoadwayTM Project provides stakeholders in this clean energy initiative an opportunity to capture incentives offered by the US Government for the development of alternative sources of energy. Incentives include tax credits, renewable energy credits and allocations from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 such as the $27 billion allocated to states for roadway related infrastructure upgrades and repairs. Also available is $4 billion in smart grid and technology deployment funding from the Department of Energy. Utilizing tax incentives, available grants and other funding sources, up to 80% of a project’s costs could be covered.

“The technology to harness clean renewable energy for the electrical grid right along our nation’s roadways is proven and ready for immediate implementation,” said Ocean Tomo Vice Chairman, Dean Becker.
