West Coast Energy announces progress on Carsington and Crimp wind projects
West Coast Energy has announced progress on two proposed wind turbine projects. Developments at Carsington in Derbyshire and Crimp in Cornwall have been consented.
West Coast Energy's Carsington development is the first of its kind to be consented in Derbyshire. With construction planned for 2011, the project comprises four wind turbines with a maximum generation capacity of up to 10MW. The cost of the wind farm is expected to be around £14m.
In addition, West Coast Energy's £4m Crimp project in Cornwall will move into its construction phase in the summer of next year and will take approximately 6 months to build. The wind farm will comprise three turbines, providing a generation capacity of up to 3.9MW. In addition, a community wind farm trust will be established.
Rob Tate, Managing Director, West Coast Energy comments: "With projects of this nature it can be difficult to even obtain planning permission, so it is pleasing to be able to announce these milestones for projects across Britain. On completion, the developments will provide a combined output of up to 13 MW of renewable electricity. As world leaders prepare to discuss climate change in Copenhagen, it is renewable projects and developments such as these that will enable Britain and Europe to realise their carbon reduction commitments.
"Each project represents a significant investment in its local area's community and economy. We are proud of our record of offering benefits to neighbourhood areas in this way. Wind farms provide an opportunity for people to be directly involved in combating climate change. Local contractors will also be able to bid for the lucrative construction contracts associated with developments of this nature. We are glad to be able to help stimulate regional prosperity in these difficult economic times, while helping to drive the UK's renewable capacity."
To date, West Coast Energy has secured planning permission for a range of onshore and offshore wind farms totalling in excess of 500MW.
